Nestled within a beautiful historic designed landscape lies Mavisbank, Scotland’s hidden gem
All property, buildings and landscapes need to be cared for, maintained and nurtured. Sadly in recent times both the landscape and the house at Mavisbank have fallen into serious disrepair. Mavisbank House is considered critically at risk and is one of Europe’s most endangered heritage sites having suffered serious fire damage in 1973 and decades of neglect. Public access and access for maintenance and repair has become increasingly difficult over the years due to the loss of historic approach routes which are now in private ownership and public opposition to alternative routes.
The Mavisbank Trust is committed to the restoration of the house, its designed landscape and policies, ensuring they are cared for, protected, and accessible to the local community, the people of Scotland and visitors.
After more than 40 years of deterioration, there is now real momentum for change and a brighter future for Mavisbank. Major funding has been secured to stabilise the house and to create a much-needed new access drive to the house. The Landmark Trust (a leading building conservation charity) is developing proposals to restore Mavisbank House and to work in partnership with the Mavisbank Trust to improve repair and restore the landscape and upgrade public access to this important and special place.
